OIC Youth Indonesia

Statement on Behalf of the OIC Youth Indonesia Executive Board

Regarding the Recent Escalation in Palestine-Israel

The OIC Youth Indonesia Executive Board is deeply saddened by the recent escalation in the conflict between Palestine and the Israeli authorities. Our hearts go out to all innocent civilians who have lost their loved ones, their homes, and their lives.

We echo the sentiments of both the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities. We deplore any atrocities from all sides that might have been committed during the recent escalation. However we maintain our stand in supporting the just and righteous cause of the Palestinian people for freedom and justice and its right to self defense.

The root of the conflict remains the occupation of the Palestinian territories by Israel and the widespread feeling of hopelessness in the possibility of achieving a two state solution in the face of the intransigence and actions of the Israeli authorities. This occupation and disregard of the two state solution by the Israeli authorities are violations of international law and must be resolved in accordance with the parameters agreed upon by the UN.

As Indonesian youth, we are committed to upholding the principles of our constitution, which includes the obligation to take part in realizing world peace and to oppose all forms of occupation and colonialism. We call on the international community to act urgently and decisively to end the occupation of Palestine and to bring about a just and lasting peace for all, which is under threat as the pace of Israeli escalation and settlement building within Occupied Palestine continues unchecked, threatening the possibility of the two state solution

We deplore the spread of misinformation, hoaxes, and false narratives, especially in media publications and social media, that seeks to mislead the public away from the facts and realities of the life and struggle of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation, blockade, and control. We also call on all parties to exercise restraint and to avoid any actions that could further escalate the conflict. We urge the international community to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the violence, to work to ensure the protection of civilians, and to push all sides, in particular the Israeli authorities, to return back to a path that ensures a just peace for Palestine.

We pray for peace in Palestine and in the world
